[BOOKISH TAG] Audiobook

Hello friends! 🍁 This week has been extremely stressful for me, my depression level has been at the highest and I haven’t been able to write anything. I’ve tried to like and comment on some posts from blogs I follow, but it’s been extremely hard. Instead, I have been reading, cooking, and cleaning like there is no tomorrow. But, you all didn’t come here for a sobbing post; I have been looking forward to doing something fun so when I found this tag a while back, I saved it for future posts and so, here it is.

HAVE YOU ALWAYS LISTENED TO AUDIOBOOKS OR WHEN DID YOU BEGIN?

Not always, I enjoy reading books at my own pace but I remember downloading (don’t laugh) A Court of Mist and Fury when it came out on Audible I think back in May 2016. This was my first audiobook, I had the hardcover but back then I didn’t have the patience to wait until after work to be able to read this book. I read the physical book at home and listen to the audiobook to and from work while driving.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE AUDIOBOOK?

The Obsession by Nora Roberts. You all don’t understand how MANY TIMES I’ve listened to this book. I know it by heart, EVERY SINGLE LINE. You do not understand the love I have for this audiobook. The voices, the sounds, the feeling I get every time I listen to it – nothing can compare when it comes to other audiobooks vs. The Obsession.

WHAT IS MY LEAST FAVOURITE THING ABOUT AUDIOBOOKS?

THE VOICE. The voice needs to be the right one or even if I love the premise, the author, or have read the physical/ebook copy, I won’t listen to the audiobook. This may be me picking small details but the voice and pace of the book need to be the right one. You may think why is this your least favorite? Because it shames me to put down a book I know I will love because of the voice. I have DNF books because of this along.

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE DIFFERENCE IN EXPERIENCE BETWEEN PHYSICALLY READING A BOOK AND LISTENING TO IT?

I think we all experience books differently doesn’t matter if you choose to read or listen. For me, when I read I dive deeply into it and my voice becomes the character’s voice. But, listening to an audiobook is a very different experience, some audiobooks have sound effects (for example, one of my favorite audiobooks Sanctuary has background noise and the sounds indicate what the character is doing, very realistic as if watching a show). Some books elevate the voice effect, some have different people doing different individuals (one I’m looking forward to listening to because of this is The Sandman). People experience reading differently, but we need to admit that sometimes listening to an audiobook elevates the experience.

HOW AND WHEN DO YOU LISTEN?

I can ONLY listen to audiobooks when I’m driving. Instead of the radio or music, I always put on an audiobook when I’m driving. This is the only way I can focus on the story and what is happening. I can’t just lay in bed or sit in a place and listen, I need to be doing something minimal that won’t distract me from the book I’m listening to.

WHAT STYLE/GENRE DO YOU PREFER?

Besides romance, duh, most of the books I listen to are suspense/thriller. The whole audio experience when it comes to a scary book is so good, puts me on the edge and the driving is more entertaining.

WHAT ARE SOME AUDIOBOOK/NARRATOR RECOMMENDATIONS?

Oh, I have a couple, let’s begin:

• Sanctuary by Nora Roberts (Narrated by: Sandra Burr)
• Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (Narrated by: Lindsay Duncan)
• Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie (Narrated by: David Suchet)
• The Next Always by Nora Roberts (Narrated by: MacLeod Andrews)
• Becoming by Michelle Obama (Narrated by: Michelle Obama)
• Hideaway by Nora Roberts (Narrated by: January LaVoy)
• Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling (Narrated by: Jim Dale) – I haven’t finished yet but the narrator is amazing! plus these books was 26 hours with 19 minutes ;a;

All these narrators have elevated my reading experience while listening to these books.
