[RECAP] April with the Derry Girls and Notions ⌨️

Hello, lovelies! 🎧 Happy Mother’s Day 💐 back with another monthly recap. I tried doing my bi-weekly chats but work [and procrastination] have been overwhelming and so I go back to the basics – if it ain’t broke it, don’t fix it.

Reading ~ it’s all about the books babe! ✨

I read a total of 19 books in the month of April from which most were re-reads. I have done my mini-reviews for the books I read {part1\part2}

  • THE VERY BEST: Sweet as Honey by Lucy Lennox & Feral by Alessandra Hazard
  • THE VERY, VERY, VERY BAD: Bad Boys by Emma Alcott *DNF
  • THE UNEXPECTED: Desires of a Monster by Roe Havart
  • THE LOVABLE: Bossy by N.R Walker & Quench Kiki Burrelli

I still believe Sweet as Honey will end as one of my favorite books of the year, the relationship and character were /chef’s kiss/. I’ve also re-read Feral twice #noregrets ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Also, I never talk about this but webcomics oh my lord, I’m so invested in these stories – I think more than in books since the episodes are release weekly and the wait kills me every time.

Some webcomics I’m following religiously {and maybe you should too ;D} and I don’t regret the coins spent to read the most recent episodes [ps. all of these images are from episodes already released]

First row (left to right):

  • Lore Olympus by Rachel Smythe
  • The Remarried Empress by Alphatart/Sumpul
  • His Majesty’s Proposal by Yeyeong/Studio Inus

Second row (left to right)

  • My Gently Raised Beast by Teava/Yeoseulki
  • Castle Swimmer by Wendy Lian Martin
  • The Doctors are Out by Blau

Intermission} Let me take a moment to fangirl over Notions and their cute formats 😬

I have seen Notions around for months now and didn’t think much about it since I love bullet journaling and it felt a bit like betrayal if I tried Notions, but I decided to use it [mostly, to keep track of things such as finances]

Now, I have to say I’m in deep.

I think what I’m loving the most are the trackers. I have a list/tracker for everything which I find surprisingly relaxing and satisfying. I have a tracker for books I’m currently reading/read/DNF per month, I keep track of my finances per week and how much I spend – plus, I have categories for those spends! ⚆ _ ⚆ You may think I’m crazy but at my age I need to keep track of EVERYTHING and it needs to be visual if not, money goes and I don’t know what happened with it.

Also, the format is amazing and flexible. I’m still getting used to it, most – if not all- of the templates already in Notions are of no use for me so I usually create those that meet my needs. I’m having fun! ps. one of the things I hate is how the images on the cover section don’t really have a specific size so everything is wonky and I can’t use cute ones from movies/animes! ︵ヽ(`Д´)ノ︵

Let’s dance until we drop dead 🎵

I’m very similar to books when it comes to music – if I like it I will have that song on repeat for the next decade (▰˘◡˘▰) so in April it was all about SHINee and their repackage album Atlantis. They never disappoint! the repackage is amazing, the new songs were also so good! The album has been on repeat and the quality is top notch.

The best for the end: documentaries and the Derry Girls … and that wee English fella #poorjames

Since 2021 started, I’ve been more involved in watching documentaries. While some months have been true crimes and cold cases, last month it was History. Now, I’m a History graduate but I’ve never seemed to enjoy American History, mostly because I prefer European History but I have to admit, I loved watching First Ladies on HBO Max.

The documentary did an amazing job showcasing the lives of these talented women – I mostly enjoyed Eleanor Roosevelt and Jackie O [Jackie Kennedy]

“We are afraid to care too much, for fear that the other person does not care at all.”

Eleanor Roosevelt

I enjoyed some episodes more than the others but the one that truly captivated me was Eleanor’s story. I was so impacted I went online and bought two books written by her, one an autobiography which I started to read during my breaks at work and the oner one about how to overcome fear.

books: The Autobiography of Eleanor Roosevelt & You Learn by Living: Eleven Keys for a More Fulfilling Life

I also watched the documentary of The House of Windsor and wow, I also loved it! Seeing the history behind today’s royal family was amazing. I was a bit surprised of how history does repeat itself – watch it and you will see why!

I also watched AND LOVED EVERY SINGLE EPISODE of Derry Girls, is on Netflix and I’m just obsess. The most amazing thing about this shows is that you don’t go into it with an idea that the plot will be amazing, after all is about a group of teenagers from a Catholic schools, sounds funny and chaotic at the same time – and IT IS. It delivers in every single line. I was laughing so hard, from the moment we start episode one you know IT WILL BE GOOD. And it is!

I wish I could truly express how EPIC this show is. It is funny, warmhearted, addictive, lot’s of cursing – but mostly is Michelle 😀 – acceptance, and the FRIENDSHIP IS EVERYTHING ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ also, did I say funny: PS. THE NUN IS THE BEST CHARACTER IN THIS SHOW. Plus, every single character has their own personality – for real, every single one of them is so different from the other one: yet the sentiment is always a good one.

So, that's all folks! What did you read/listen to/watched on the month of April?
